Cancer.

It’s not a pretty word. Chances are most of you know someone who has been affected by it or it has affected you personally. It can turn your world upside down… but it can also bring people together.

This weekend, on Mother’s Day, I saw hope in the midst of cancer; I saw strength, courage, endurance, tears, love, joy, grace, dedication, and family.

Thousands showed up this year for the Susan G. Komen 5k Race for the Cure event at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. It was an unusually cold May morning but they came for their aunts, grandmothers, sisters, mothers, daughters, friends, co-workers and countless others affected by breast cancer. Some did it for themselves, having survived it. Everyone came in hope of one day winning the fight against cancer.

I love events like this. One with a great purpose… that brings people from all different walks of life together. One that brings hope to the world.

As some of you may know, Muse is the sister studio of Kimberly Reed Photography. Earlier this year, Kim shared a very personal story about how cancer pushed its way into her life.

I joined in the fight against cancer for many reasons… one of them being my amazing friend Kim.
